Integrated into the exterior plaza of Tacoma’s new Pacific Plaza, Projecting Drop
compresses layers of history into a dynamic expression of past forms, present actions, and future vitality. The sculpture links a 19th-century Turkish bathhouse uncovered beneath the site with its present role as a cistern supporting the building’s green roof. An undulating surface of hand-placed hexagonal porcelain tile and embedded aluminum text evokes the movement of water and the material memory of the bath. Activated by passerby movement, projected light animates the text, inviting the public to participate in the city’s collective identity and ongoing transformation.
