Photography by Carlos Amat Emergent draws from the layered history of the Canadian Pacific Railway, reinterpreting recycled steel rails and wooden ties into a sculptural work that is both grounded and expansive. Illuminated in the iconic CPR red, it offers a welcoming place to gather. The seating forms rise from the earth as if pushed upward by subterranean force — a reference to the CPR’s early discovery of natural gas in Alberta. Angled vertical elements extend this gesture of emergence, reaching upward and outward. Carefully calibrated to reflect the Calgary Tower, they visually connect buried histories with the contemporary city skyline, bridging below and above, past and present.
