Clearing is inspired by the old-growth Douglas fir forest that once occupied the site of the new campus building. The artwork evokes the absence of a single majestic tree, proposing a “clearing” that preserves its memory: light filtering through delicate, towering limbs above, and the trace of its trunk rings imprinted below. The work invites reflection on presence and loss, and on the ways landscapes endure through memory.
